Poor Baby!

My baby girl has inherited her Daddy’s teeth which means that just about every other dental appointment results in cavities.  She’s already had more fillings in her nine and a half years, than I’ve had in my thirty-eight.  It’s not for lack of trying or hard work – we’ve tried just about everything to keep those cavities at bay, but unfortunately she still gets bad news more often than she’d like.  I suppose the dentist was trying to cheer us up or change our perspective because she suggested that we imagine what her mouth would be like if we weren’t doing everything we could.  It was some consolation I suppose, but not enough to cheer this poor sweet baby girl up.

She handled it all like a trooper once again.  I don’t think it’s the shot that bothers her (actually I’m not even sure she was aware that she was getting a shot in her mouth!), but rather the numb mouth.  Such a strange, strange sensation.  Oh and all those metal instruments in your mouth.  Not fun!

Cheer up, baby girl!  We’re going to hope that these will be the last cavities you have for a long, long time!  In the meantime, I want you to know how brave you are.  I am very proud of how you handled yourself this morning.  Your courage inspires me.  With love, Your Momma
