I love everything about the beach … the sand … the sound of the waves against the shore … the warmth of the sun on my skin.
On the shores of Lake Michigan in the quaint little town of South Haven is one of our favorite beaches. Each year we attempt the two-hour drive at least once [more if we can]. For the past several years, each time we’d make the trip the weather would deceive us. It would be gorgeous back home and even once we arrived, but eventually the sky would darken, the wind would pick up and a storm would roll in. We began to think we were cursed. In fact, it’s become a joke in the family. If you want to have a nice day at South Haven beach, do not go with our family.
Thankfully, though, this past Sunday we proved that it is safe to take our family to the beach. The weather was perfect … warm sun … a nice cool breeze every once in a while … minimal crowds … the perfect spot on the sand … lovely company … an all around beautiful day!
This picture makes me chuckle… The kids were all out in the [51 degree] water with my Dad when he challenged everyone to take the plunge and go under. Everyone agreed and the countdown began … 3-2-1-GO! Everyone went … except Matthew, who stood there and watched everyone else go under into the cold, cold water!
To me, these pictures represent the perfect summer day. They also get me really excited for our camping trip in August … to another destination on the shores of Lake Michigan … Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore! I can’t wait!
It looks like a great day - I'm sure your summers are much more comfortable than mine in NC.
